VIRGIN 360 BOX

I have recently transferred from the old tivo box to the 360.

Various problems but the main pain seems to be when it is switched on after going in to standbye  it goes to the start up screen on the Hisense Tv.

The old tivo did go straight in to the hdmi1 socket. My mother is 88 and she ia finding it terribly hard to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

There's a number of things to try.

The TV might be going straight to the Hisense startup screen because the 360 is taking too long to start up and be recognised.   It might be possible to set the HDMI1 port to be the default input or source on the Hisense.

The white TV button turns your actual TV set on and off independently from the VM 360 box.
The red power button switches the 360 box on and off.

Try going to Settings > System > One Power on the 360 and set that to ON. That should enable the connected devices (TV and 360) to both be turned on at the same time providing they are compatable and connected using an HDMI cable.

The TV does need to have HDMI-CEC enabled for that function to work. Some TV's have different naming conventions for HDMI-CEC.
For example LG TV's call it SIMPLINK. Philips TV's call it EasyLink. Samsung TV's call it Anynet+, Sharp TV's call it AQUOS, Sony's call it Bravia, and  some Toshiba's call it Regza.

Also try Settings > System > Standby power consumption. You have 3 choices.
Fast start  - the 360 starts quickly but is less energy efficient
Active start - more energy efficient than fast start but the box takes a little longer to start up
Eco start - the most energy efficient and probably the one you're using. It uses minimal power but takes a while to start. It might be better to set it to Fast Start.

It might also be an idea to go to Settings > System > Standby Timer on the 360 and set that to 24 hours  , rather than 4,5 or 6 hours.
