Updated to TV 360 from V6 changes

Just updated our v6 box to 360 and I have to say that so far I am not impressed. Far from it. Although the menus may look fancy and "modern", they're nowhere near as user friendly as the old ones. No button for my shows, and recordings about four along on the home menu. It just shows how it's geared more towards streaming now (sadly).

Also apparently gone is the wish list, which was brilliant. I simply typed in Pittsburgh Penguins and any game would record. Now without that option it looks like I'm going to have to search for games on a regular basis.

Series Links are harder to make and appear to only be possible to make if there's currently an episode available to record.

I suppose at least Disney+ is now available but many of the old great features sadly seem gone.

Maybe they'll be an option to undownload and go back. Hopefully

  • Clearly you didn't research the 360 before switching, if you want to see all your recordings you need to go to Recordings, Recorded and View all.

Most ot the missing V6 features are TiVo patented and will never be seen on the 360.

When setting a series link remember to use the Advanced options and probably the New Only option.

You are correct sir, I did absolutely zero research before I started the "upgrade".

I have found the advanced options when setting a series link but my point is, if I want to set a link for a show that isn't currently being shown, that I want to be picked up again when it starts being shown again, sadly this doesn't appear to be a option.

As you said you can only set recordings or series links when the show is shown on the TV guide but if you use the New Only option or the from Series XX option it will record the next series. If you decide you want to delete a series link you need to do it from the options on your recorded episodes before you delete the last one because there is no manage series links option like the V6 has.

Is there a list of the patented features that we we will never see on the 360. The one i would love to see on the 360 is manual recording. I would set it to record 5 min before a game would start and now i have to fast forward 55 min. It's a total pain. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with the 360.

Yeah the skip button made skipping 15 increments very easy, yet another feature sadly missing.

I'm amazed someone actually likes 360 though because 99% of people seem to all agree that it's dreadful.

Sadly, this is one of the consequences of companies being taken over. Virgin Media is now part of a media company that operates many cable networks across Europe. V360 (& Virgin Stream) run on their in-house developed Horizon TV firmware platform, which is now in its 4th generation. There is no way of adding TiVO features, nor is there a way back once you have “migrated”. Apart from contract changes that include Paramount+ or Disney+ subs, migration is still currently voluntary. However, this is likely to end in the foreseeable future when Virgin drops the traditional “cable broadcast” transmission methods of distributing TV, that will make the current TiVO boxes obsolete.

Fundamentally the choice to convert from TiVo/V6 > TV 360 is voluntary, and it's no more an "upgrade" than changing from Apple to Android or vice-versa.

It's never a surprise to read tales of VM's sales operation suggesting otherwise, and neither can they be blamed for it.

It is true. A conversion from TiVo/V6 > TV 360 is voluntary, but is one-way. The hard drive in your box has been reformatted and no longer runs TiVo-software. Your account will also have been migrated to the Horizon platform.

New installs of V6 are only available to existing TiVo/V6 customers.

  • I have just been conned into "upgrading" to 360 and it's absolutely terrible. TiVO was sooo much better. Really feel like I've been absolutely had on this one

I do think some people complain too much about the 360. Granted, neither it nor its remote are as good as the V6's, but the 360 remote has a trump card: its voice control which I use multiple times a day to easily switch to YouTube from linear TV. I only use a few buttons on the remote and rarely need to access the main menu.

Voice control will not make up for any of the missing features though. One gain (which I won't use any way) for umpteen loses

  • God the more I use this the more I hate it. It's so bad. Virgin should be ashamed of themselves for not allowing people to revert.

Can't believe this thread is 4 years old and the issues raised are some of the exact thoughts I've had after "upgrading" this week. Wish I'd found these threads before I clicked upgrade. Absolutely regret it. 360 is absolutely crap. I will also be leaving virgin in 18 months when my contract is up after nearly 20 years. Sad times as the v6 TiVO was so good

Just be aware that leaving VM won't get you TiVo-firmware back, that's not possible in the UK. If you are with VM as a pay-TV platform, your only other realistic choice is Sky - and they don't offer TiVo to new customers any more than VM do.

From my understanding, TV360 is following a similar high-level design strategy in "look & feel" to Sky Q & Sky Glass - in other words, you'll end up with a similar approach but a different badge. I have no first-hand experience to comment further.

Honestly, 360 is so bad it's like something designed by a team on the apprentice. Alan Sugar would rip it to shreds and definitely fire a few people

  • There was a thread near the top a few days ago discussing the lack of the undelete feature (one of many missing 360 features )but now it appears that thread had been ironically deleted.

Anyone know an reason why this would happen?

BTW I literally just deleted a recording by mistake and it is so easy to do and I was not asked if I was sure I wanted to delete.

    Literally, 360 is the worst.

  • Can someone please provide me with an email address to complain please.  I tried using the complaints form online but I have far too much text to be able to use the form.

    Thanks

As I clearly stated, everything I want to say is too much to fit on the online form that is limited to 3500 characters, and Web chat isn't to a real human being

Yes, that is the problem with the complaints form, there isn't enough room to explain in detail any remotely complex issue. Another problem is that, having submitted a complaint and having received no acknowledgement or reply, I re-submittted the complaint a few weeks later but with the same result or lack thereof.

Exactly. I've wrote a 1500 word essay of a complaint, with quotes, evidence and references to back my argument up so 3500 characters just isn't enough 😠
