Are you using a soundbar, or does the sound come directly from the Panasonic TV?
If you need to pair the TV 360 remote with the TV to control volume, source or power then press Home > Settings > Audio & Video > Pair remote with devices > Press OK then Pair TV and follow the on screen instructions
If you've already done the above then double check under Settings > Audio Video > Volume Keys Control that it isn't set to (TV make) Amplifier instead of your TV make.
Have you tried pairing the 360 remote again by holding down the 'Live TV' (the one on the right hand side directly below the red power/standby button) and '0' button together for around 10/15 seconds. The Standby button should then start to flash followed by an onscreen message displaying 'Pairing successful - this remote will only work with this Virgin 360 box'.
You can also try the following:-
Put the box into 'Pairing Mode' by pressing the Standby/On button on the front of the 360 box for 10 seconds. Then using the remote control, press and hold the 'Live TV' button and the '0' button together for 10/15 seconds. And fingers crossed hopefully a message should appear on the screen confirming that pairing was successful. - ObeanSettling in

I think you only get the volume keys control if you also have a soundbar or similar connected. Does the 360 remote turn the TV off and on if you press the red power button.
How did you pair the TV, by model number or the volume keys test, if it was the volume keys method try again but don't accept the first one that works.

Hi again Obean
Go to Setting > Audio & Video > Audio Output > there are three options
Follow Content, PCM 5.1 (HDMI only), and PCM 2.0
Select PCM2.0 and see if you can then get sound.
The white TV button turns your actual TV set on and off independently from the VM 360 box.
The red power button switches the 360 box on and off.If you have enabled 'One Power' in the 360 settings (System > One Power) then the red power button also enables you turn on connected devices at the same time as the 360 box providing they are compatable and connected using an HDMI cable. The TV does need to have HDMI-CEC enabled for that function to work.
Some TV's have different naming conventions for HDMI-CEC. It might be called Viera Link or CEC on your Panasonic TV.

Volume control works by IR straight to your TV so it sounds like your TV isn't correctly paired to your TV.
