Pairing two remotes to new 360 box

Good evening

I’ve seen previous posts about pairing multiple Bluetooth remotes to V6. I need to do the same with my new 360 box and second remote I’ve got from Virgin. ?? Stuck anyone got info how to do this or have done it.
Thanks

  • Hi there

If it's a new 360 remote have you tried holding down the 'TV' button and '0' button together until the Standby button starts to flash.

This should pair the remote to the box.

    Thanks

That gets me to pairing one remote or the other. I cannot seem to get both paired at once. At least that’s progress 😀 Just need to work how to pair both.

        Hi Christy

        Just following up on this.

Are you able to find any further technical guidance about pairing multiple remotes?

        Thanks

        Martin

  • I need two remotes paired for the 360 box as both me and the missus have a remote each
We are used to doing this on Sky Q so why can't we do it here?

If we cannot them I'll have to seriously consider cancelling and staying with Sky

  • We use our mobile phones you get the same controls using the the TV Control app plus you have your phone keyboard for quick searching.

      Hello Fubb55

For the v360 I am afraid the the TV Control App will not work as that App is for Tivo based boxes like the v6 or Tivo, all of the controls for the v360 are built into the Tv Go app.

      Regards Mike

Thx for info I’m getting 360 today good to know you can still control from phone on the GO app!

  • The reason you can't do it is because Virgin want you to pay for an additional (smaller) box in each room, so it's not so much a step back and more the case of virgin profiteering by costing you more to do the same as before.

Seems strange that I can pair my Bose Lifestyle system remote to my 360 box and my Virgin supplied 360 remote also works (both on bluetooth!). So in principle you can pair two remotes but it seems not two Virgin supplied 360 remotes.  Is this as discussed a buy another box scam that is hiding behind a so called technical capability.  Come on Virgin you already pull my trousers down and spank me for enough money every month!  We too have piped HDMI to each room and now have to use our mobiles as controllers it would be convenient to be able to use a remote especially for the voice search function.  Any update on Alexa integration?  Sort this out and I will happily get back in my box!

  • My wife got fed up of using the Virgin Media Go App as a remote control as it meant a few more clicks before you can even change channel, so I went about trying to figure out whether we can get two remotes linked to the same 360 box.  After initially failing to get it sorted, I found a solution that works for us and possibly for any others that experience the same problem.

We have 1 TV in our main living room, 8 metres away from the box, and another TV 2 metres away in our bedroom with HDMI cables running from box to both TVs.

I took a punt and bought a "One For All" smart remote from Argos (c.£20) which is controlled via IR.  I was willing to buy this remote as I also have an amp and a Blu ray player which means I can control my TV, Virgin Box, Amp and Blu Ray player using only 1 remote.

The reason why One For All is good is because they have an app you download on your phone and you can input the remote control code to link to the Virgin box.  All you do is program the One For All remote with the Virgin Box set as "Ziggo Media" and the code is 1582 (I got the code from someone else on this forum) and it worked!  All of a sudden I had an IR remote to the box along with the official Virgin remote (to be used in our bedroom).

The second issue after that was how to get the IR signal from the One For All remote from the garage to the main living room (some 8 metres).  You can get some cheap IR buds, but for some reason it didn't work for me.

So I ended up taking a second punt and bought a "Marmitek" IR transmitter and Receiver from Amazon for a reasonable price (they look like two small pyramids).  One goes in front of the Virgin box in the garage and the other went next to my TV in the living room.  It works well and now I can control my living room TV perfectly using the One For All remote.

Sorry for the long winded post but hopefully it helps anyone if they are still struggling to use two remotes on one box. My solution does mean spending money on a One for All remote and possibly IR receiver but for me it was worth the price and less hassle.

Can you share the model details of the all in one remote from argos for £20?

      thanks

TV Go app is pretty limited, no volume function and really poorly laid out and hard to figure out and that is coming from someone who works with software. Its not a fix or solution, proper support for 2 remotes is required here.

All you do is program the One For All remote with the Virgin Box set as "Ziggo Media"

I have my new remote but don't know where to connect it up to

Hey Barbdriver, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry you are struggling to find Ziggo Media.

Please can I confirm what TV you have is it a LG for example?

Once you connect your box up your TV should ask you to set it with on the providers, from here it will be a big list you should see Ziggo Media from here. Thanks

So the universal remote urc7125 is an alternative/workaround for having multiple remotes controlling the TV360 unit but I presume this is IR and so can only control the T V360 if in line of sight or via an IR blaster?

I presume there is no alternative using RF or BT?

No there are no RF\BT options. An IR blaster is probably the only option, or a remote similar to the Harmony Elite (if they still made them!) which has a hub that will act as an IR blaster and which the remote then connects to via RF\BT.

ty for replying ... I am going to see what I can do with the urc7125, homeassistant and a broadlink (IR) receiver

  • Not 100% sure its possible since the VM support guy told me its not possible to do 2 remotes due to the RF4CE signal.

The all in one remote urc7125 was just the cheapest and quickest way to get around the issue but again the microphone is like an RF4CE or Bluetooth type feature so its the main feature that will be missing.

The technology and ability is clearly still there with the V6 box since virgin media did have 2 proper VM V6 remotes working with one box before 360 update but due to the microphone feature it broke it, I would imagine software updates maybe able to fix this or work around it, Sky apparently fixed this issue.

But that would involve an VM software engineer to add this feature and those engineers don't appear to exist around here or take onboard customers feedback so you have to do everything yourself or find work arounds.

You may have success with other BT/IR type remotes like the Sofabaton, but tbh if you got it and can program it you would be the best person to try a work around.

Yes thanks for the info and I certainly will repost should I find the way around it.

BTW the voice command is not of great issue to me I just want the ability to control everything from a single remote using Bluetooth on a Virgin box that is hidden out of side, as I do with my Firestick.

Yeah BT would make it easier and possible to work around, but I don't think its even BT the vm guy that told me on reddit the new 360 system uses RF4CE signal instead, never even heard of it.

Still its worth a try I have no way of confirming if that is correct.

  • @John_GS, your answer is to a different question, not the one sought by @tedc and all prior posters in this chain - which is how to pair more than one 360 remote to just one 360 box.

Most here would accept voice control on only one remote, as long as they had other functionality on the other remote(s) and ideally without needing line of sight (eg. via BT or RF). The best workaround cited to date is to use other manufacturers' remotes (like One for All), but regrettably only with IR communication to the single 360 box.

It's understood that Virgin would prefer that subscribers take more than one 360 box in order to have TV in multiple rooms. But that still neglects users who only have one TV and 360 box, but need to control it via more than one 360 remote (for example, mobility restricted occupants).

      Hi Mark1010 👋.

Thanks for getting back to us, I am sorry but you cannot pair two 360 remotes to one box, that was a feature that was not carried over onto the 360 boxes.
