What do you mean by "downloaded" apps?
You've posted in the TV360 section of the forum, but VM's TV boxes aren't like phones & tablets that have an app store and allow users to install/update.
So are you referring to apps that VM provide on your TV360? Or are you trying to use apps on an Apple/Android tablet/phone?

Yes I am on TV 360 but preinstalled app options like my 5 itvx after signing in only play the adds and when the programme starts I only get a spinning circle on the TV
Is it all apps including iPlayer, these all rely on your network connection is it ethernet cable or wi-fi, you can check the internet connection by going to Settings > System > Diagnostics. If you are using ethernet cable try removing the ethernet cable from the 360 and try using wi-fi to see if that makes any difference.
If it's just the same try a factory reset of the box using the keep recordings option if it's still the same you might need the box replacing, any other issues with failed recordings or deleted recordings.
