Can't control box in standby from TV Go app

I recently changed from V6 Tivo to Virgin 360. Using the TV Go app with it is great, a huge improvement on the previous Control app which was often painfully slow. However, not all the functions to control the box from TV Go are available if the box is in standby:

  • If I set a recording, the app says that the recording will be set when the box wakes up.
  • Some other options to edit a previously-set recording give an error message when selected, saying that the box is in standby and therefore the option is not available.

This is a real problem because the only time I really need to use TV Go is when I'm away from home, and that means that the box is very likely to be in standby mode.

There are two ways I can see of fixing this problem:

  1. Preferably: fix the app and/or box so that the box can be fully controlled when in standby.
  2. If this isn't possible (which seems unlikely since it was possible with Tivo), add an option to the "Standby timer" drop-down which ensures that the box never goes into standby. (Currently, you can't stop it going into standby for more than 24 hours.)

    Hi Jeremy,

The Standby timer doesn't affect the recordings, the box will go into standby mode if it's not received any interaction (channel change for example)

Apart from the Standby 'timer' and as long as you are not switching the 360 off at the plug then you should go to Settings > System > Standby power consumption.

    You have 3 choices.
Fast start  - the 360 starts quickly but is less energy efficient
Active start - more energy efficient than fast start but the box takes a little longer to start up
Eco start - the most energy efficient and probably the one you're using. It uses minimal power but takes a while to start.

You need to have the box set to Fast start or Active start and don't turn off at the plug when you go away as if the 360 is set to Fast start or Active start then it should stay in a Standby mode where it can still record and receive updates. (Setting it to Eco start is a bit like switching the box off)

  • As previously suggested you need the box set to fast start or active start and not switched off at the plug. Also don't switch off your hub. I am currently away in Germany and forgot to set the F1 to record, set it today. Got the message initially about the box being in standby checked the recordings and it was there. Box is set to active start.
