Box in other room will not play recordings

I have two 360deg boxes in different rooms, both connected by Hub 5 half way between them. Neither is ever switched off i.e. always on standby unless in use.

Both work fine when watching live programs. There seems no logic which box is used for recordings.

For example, when I get my listings magazine I am in the room with Box 1 and I go through the listings  and set my recordings for the following week. When I go to play the recordings later, on Box 1, it sometimes works, but often I get a message that Box 2 is 'starting-up' and to try again. It never does start-up and I have to go to the other room and take Box 2 out of standby, then return to the other room where all will be well (until the next time).

Sometimes it does the same thing but the other way round, but less often because I use Box 2 less often and almost never set recording from there.

Before you ask: I never get a message saying I have tried to record too many programmes. I have tried all the usual 'tricks' such as switching either/both boxes off and on again and rebooting my Hub.

Recordings will be set on the "master" box, regardless of which one you set them on, unless you go into the advanced recording settings when setting it up and specify the box to record to.

This applies even if both boxes are 'full' 360 boxes?

The question was more about why I cannot access either box from the other room, without physically having to go to the 'other' box to turn it on i.e. out of standby.

If you don't turn either box off at all via the rocker switch on the back of the 360, or by the wall socket, but need to turn the box(es) on so that they come out of standby, then it suggests they either aren't connecting to the VM hub, or that they are in Eco mode.

The Standby timer doesn't affect the recordings, the box will go into standby mode if it's not received any interaction (channel change for example)

Apart from the Standby 'timer' and as long as you are not switching the 360 off at the plug then you should go to Settings > System > Standby power consumption.

      You have 3 choices.
Fast start  - the 360 starts quickly but is less energy efficient
Active start - more energy efficient than fast start but the box takes a little longer to start up
Eco start - the most energy efficient and probably the one you're using. It uses minimal power but takes a while to start.

You need to have the box(es) set to Fast start or Active start and don't turn them off at the plug  as if the 360 is set to Fast start or Active start then it should stay in a Standby mode where it can still record and receive updates. (Setting it to Eco start is a bit like switching the box off)

The first two options (Fast and Active Start) are best if you have a mini box and want to watch a recording on it. If you try to set a recording via the TVGo app when the 360 is in Eco mode then it won't work as the box appears to be offline to the app.

The same applies if you have two or more 360 boxes and try to either access or set a recording on another box. Both boxes need to be in active or fast start mode so they can communicate with each other. If box(es) are set to eco mode then they  would also appear to be offline to VM so that VM would be unable to test for faults.
