360 Box Availability

My Brother in Law recently had his 360 box removed when he renewed his contract.  the new box provided was not able to provide MUTV which was part of his contract.

He has been told by several engineers that the new type of box will not provide MUTV and that he needs a 360 box!!!  He has been told they are no longer available. I have read that if one pushes the point they are still available. We are going into the shop on Monday to sort it and most likely cancel the contract. Can any one advise? He has early dementia and cannot be too certain what he has been told.

  • A faulty box should be replaced with an identical box, either a V6 or 360 box, if the 360 has been replaced with a stream box then MUTV isn't available AFAIK, is the box that has been replaced the main box or a secondary box

The old TiVo boxes were originally replaced with a 360 mini box as part of the update to 360 and are now being replaced with streaming boxes but if your BiL only had the one box and it was updated to 360 it should be replaced with a 360 box.

Best to wait for one of the forum team to get back to you.

They took out a 360 box replacing it with a streaming box, even though the new contract included provision of MUTV! Virgin are now claiming they cant get any 360 boxes. I am going into a Virgin store on monday to try and sort it for him. I cant wait to hear what the forum team can say about it. Thanks for your reply.

  • Are you really sure about this? Can you double check what you have said?

My EPG goes from 525 to 532 on my Stream box, missing out 526 which is the channel number MUTV is on that list.

In addition in another posting I went through the current price of the channels available both on the box via the app and on the website. I wasn't looking for it at the time, but notice now neither included MUTV:

EDIT - I should add that I am on the Flex package. It is possible that the available channels vary by package.

I've been searching online and I can't find anything that either says MUTV can be added to VM Flex, or any graphics/screenshots showing it as a Flex add-on.

I did however find an AI response (I usually ignore as they are usually incorrect) but the suggestion it made seems to make sense  in a roundabout way, although I'm unsure if it's correct.

"for a full Stream-only household (no 360 box), MUTV and LFC TV might not be accessible due to IP licensing issues, requiring you to potentially add it via the official MUTV app or website for streaming on compatible devices. "

If that's the case then it would seem that one would have to switch from a Flex box contract to take out a TV package  with a TV360 box (not available in a full fibre area) and if taking out multiroom then the channel could be added and also streamed via the IPTV box.

Or use a workaround by subscribing directly to MUTV and either access it via a browser on or the MUTV app which is available on firesticks, ios and android devices (including Android TV and Apple TV), Samsung Smart TVs, LG Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Roku TV and Xbox. It can also be cast to Chromecast or Airplay connected TV's.

Due to broadcasting rights though  MUTV (and Liverpool TV) cannot show live Men's matches during the season

Out of interest does the channel show on your additional stream box, given that your main box is a 360?

  • It might be helpful if you confirm what virgin package your brother in law has, his deal might be different to your deal.

Is it missing 526 completely or just grayed out because your not subscribed.

What you are seeing is not an error by VM. Niche/specialist channels (club TV, betting channels, regional sports) were originally set up as linear broadcast channels and continue to do this - but when it comes to streaming it's different. The clubs' apps provide far more content, such as full match replays, training sessions, press conferences and exclusive documentaries, so the clubs want to drive subscriptions to the apps. What I'm belatedly getting down to saying is that the linear TV channels, by showing highlights or selected repeats, are a showcase for what the apps provide. This is why VM has no rights to stream MUTV and LFC TV.

However Stream has evolved significantly from its initial use in April 2022 as a secondary OTT-style aggregator box for light TV viewers to be the 360 mini replacement and, more importantly, as the primary/sole box for Pay TV. As such the MUTV and LFC TV channels should appear on the Stream's EPG in the coming years - but VM will have to offer significant marketing commitments like guaranteed prominence (amongst other things) when the next round of carriage negotiations are held.
