No longer view old recordings due to channel number change.

Hi

I have tried to view ‘Fantastic Beasts made on my Tivo box a year or so ago, but “The computer says no”

I get the message “no longer available” because ITV2 is no longer available from Virgin Media.

Yet ITV2 is still available although now HD

Also same for recordings made Channel 4 and BBC2 

Is there a fix or do I have to put up with it

Is there a solution in the pipeline?

    Hi camper 

    Where the recording you made all on the SD versions of the channels you mentioned?  If so that will be the reason why they are no longer available.  The SD versions of those channels have now been removed and are now only broadcast in HD.

    When a channel ceases broadcasting on VM, hidden EPG metadata is retained to allow recordings to be accessed for a period of time - this is usually between 3 - 6months.  Once the metadata is removed any related recordings become inaccessible. 

    It's possible you may be able to watch the programs via apps, on demand or catch up.

    You haven't explicitly said which Fantastic Beasts recording you are trying to watch, however Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is being screened on ITV HD and ITV+1 this coming Sunday.

    Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is available on ITVX, as is Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

      I think I understood what has happened and yes they were recorded from channels that are now HD

      I would surmise that VM are not  going to add a fix.

      Thanks for the advice of where to see all the Fantastic Beasts films

      I also had the classic Where Eagles Dare recorded in SD that I cannot now view. I will have to wait until Christmas to get it again!

        The point is, there's nothing to fix.

        VM's TV recording facilities are intended for short-term timeshift viewing, and the vast majority of the time there is no limit on retention.

        Retention of recordings longer than 3-6months is considered long-term viewing, and not what either VM or the content owners intend.
