Regional channels

Help. 2 days ago and since whenever, we've always had Midlands bbc and Central itv news channels. Its now changed to the Northwest and Granada. But we're not in the northwest catchment area, only Central and Midlands.  How do we get it back?? TIA.

The channels fed to your box are those that are served from the regional head-end which provides your service, it's not something you can change. Alternate local regions are often available on EPG positions 85x, below the national variations in 8610865

Which area are you in? We should then be able to deduce which regional switch feeds your area.

Until the regional channels are updated  you should be able to use iPlayer to view your local news programs, for example Midlands or East Midlands, and also use ITVX to view Midlands news.

As you are using the streaming IP boxes & not the V360 broadcast boxes this may be something VM can fix; maybe not? It is possible you have been moved to a CMTS (cable internet interface) of an adjacent region. If they do this for maintenance reasons it is usually only temporary, but it is feasible that the box could pull a different region as a result. If it persists for several weeks then get in touch with VM.

  • Hi Adey2001, sorry about the confusion with your regional channels. This should be resolve now.

    Best wishes.

VM delivers all BBC and ITV regional variants from its central headend at Langley. Regional headends don’t decide which region you receive — they simply broadcast whatever Langley provides. This also means that there is no configuration you can do from your box.

For set-top boxes (TiVo, V6 and 360), the BBC One and ITV1 region is controlled by a central mapping table at Langley that assigns the appropriate regional variant. If that mapping is changed or becomes incorrect, everyone will suddenly see different regional news.

Stream boxes work differently: the region is selected using account postcode and IP-based regionalisation, but again this is handled centrally rather than by the regional headends.

If the wrong region appears, it’s almost always a backend configuration issue that needs correcting by Langley. If you still have the problem I think it’s best raised via a forum staff member or VIP who can pass it to the right team.
