Beeping sound when changing channel
I have a Sony Bravia 4K TV with a new Virgin 360 box.
Whenever I change channel from an SD one to a HD one and vice versa, the TV or the box makes a high pitched beeping sound with a B icon with speakers appearing.
I now can’t access the TV remote’s Menu options now due to the Virgin 360 control taking over.
How do I remove the beeping sound please?
There is a fault with a common a/v chip used in some models of tv - mainly Panasonic but some others too including Sony. It may be that that you are hearing.
It has been an issue for years and neither the manufacturers of the tv sets or the manufacturers of the set-top-boxes seem to be interested in resolving it.
I know the issue I've seen affects both VirginMedia and Sky TV kit. I reported it to Panasonic in 2018 and the outcome was basically being told a third-party chip used by Panasonic sends out the noise at the moment no audio is received - so often when changing channels which themselves change between PCM 2.0 (most SD) and DD 5.1 (most HD) audio. At around the same time some other tv manufacturers started getting the same issue.
The set-top-box manufacturers said that the a/v chip in the tv should not make any noise when there is no audio signal but there is a signal being recived. There is a brief moment there is no audio when the set-top-box changes from 2.0 to 5.1 - and vice versa,
The tv manufacturers said there should be no point when their is no audio signal even if there is no sound - and the set-top-box manufacturers should no be sending a signal out but with no audio signal. So both sides said the other should fix.
I went back-and-forth with Panasonic for months but it was never fixed. New reports still occur.
You can try the following fixes to the issue I think it may be:
If you are connecting the set-top-box direct to the tv set - then set the audio output on the V6 to PCM 2.0.
My issue went when I put an a/v amp between the set-top-boxes and the tv set.
