Question about phone socket

I have a virgin phone socket next to the virgin coaxial cable socket.

I'm having to have the wall they're both situated on taken back to brick for rising damp treatment.

I pay for my phone line as part of my package deal but I don't actually use a landline phone and one hasn't been plugged in for about 3 years.

Can I have the phone socket removed / plastered over without it affecting my services ?

Obviously I'll be giving strict instructions that the coax cable entry point is not to be touched as that provides my TV and broadband services.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

  • Hello Barbieshell75

Thank you for taking the time to posting in regards to your wall socket and removing it for your upcoming changes. We appreciate you raising this with us via the forums and welcome to the community.

Removing the socket shouldn't impact your overall services (barring the landline no longer working unless it is changed to work via your Hub) 👍

  • Thank you 👍I don't actually use the landline (just pay for it as part of my package), I don't have the dongle plugged into the router either (I just use my mobile phone).

Also, I requested a new internal cover (the box that covers the coaxial entry point into the living room as the current one will have been ravaged by damp over the years and looks unsightly).

The lady I spoke to said that they don't tend to send the socket covers but I could get one with a new coaxial cable. The cable arrived today but no cover ? I'm at a loss as to what to do as the old one will be removed when the preservation works start 🤔

      Hi Barbieshell75,

We don't provide the internal covers no, however once the works have been completed, if you pop back to us, we can send an engineer to look at this and provide a new socket set up for you. Would that be okay?

Please pop back to us when you can.

  • So the engineer would have a stock of sockets on the van ? I have an engineer appointment but it had to be rearranged as the works wouldn't have been done.

When the chap changed the appointment he said he couldn't go far enough in the diary to change it to after the works are done (21st is the last day of works) so asked me to call back on Monday when they should be able to see appointments for the end of next week and beyond.

It's a bit of a chew on tbh but I'll call back and get the appointment changed again.

Thanks for coming back to us Barbieshell75. The engineer would have a stock of sockets on their van and we would be able to help further from here to get your appointment changed instead of you having to call in to arrange it. Please just get back in touch on Monday with us here and we can start the process.

      Kind Regards,
