No wall socket

Hello!

I recently moved into a new flat and received a self-installation kit for broadband. However, the wall socket I initially thought was appropriate does not seem to be the correct one for the connection.

I know that Virgin Media broadband is available in the building, as other tenants have active connections. Could you advise me on the next steps? Should I book an engineer appointment, or is there something else I should check first?

Thank you for your help.

  • For flats I would just get a manned install.  The VM connection, as noted by nodrogd  is most likely served via a communal cabinet and the technician will be able to connect you and test the service as well.

That is more than likely a rooftop antenna outlet for Freeview, & nothing to do with VM. Flats are usually internally wired to a media outlet somewhere in the flat. This can be switched to either take Sky/Freesat satellite services or Virgin services. Have a look around, & if you cannot find any other possible connections then you need a manned install. Even if you do find one ist may be currently provisioning satellite services.

You may find a socket like this.

You'll need a VM tech round to get the cable in and replace this socket.

  • Thank you for the fast responses! I have contacted customer support and booked a manned installation.
