Porting landline

Hi,

I've been with Virgin Media for several years, having a landline, TV and broadband provided by them. I've recently moved home, and the service has been moved over. The property I have moved to has a telephone number that I would like to keep, I'm happy to give up my previous number.

I requested that it was ported over a few months ago, however I'm still waiting. I have tried several times to contact VM regarding this with no success. Even raised a complaint with no feedback after 2 weeks. How do I raise a request to get the number from my new property, currently with BT ported over.

Virgin Media's customer service is currently beyond poor.

Port the additional number from the new property to a VOIP provider.

VM are only interesting in offering one phone service as a way to bind you into a more costly contract.

  • Hello watman1969,

We’re really sorry to hear you’ve had such a poor experience with this, it’s absolutely not the level of service we want you to have. When an account is being disconnected or a customer is moving to a new property, we always check whether they want to keep (port) their landline number to the provider they’re switching to.
This is because the number must stay active during the 30‑day disconnection period for the port to be successful.
If you are moving your services to BT and still have an active Virgin Media landline, your new provider (BT) will normally request the port on your behalf and as long as your Virgin line is still active, the number can be transferred over.

  • I want to move the new number from BT to Virgin Media, how do I achieve this?

You correctly said above "Virgin Media's customer service is currently beyond poor

And yet you risk losing the number you want, by moving it to VM and then possibly risk it again if you move from VM in the future.

Search this forum and you will find cases of people losing their numbers this way. If you take the advice to move the number to a proper VOIP provider, you will never need to risk losing it again.

      Hello watman1969,
To carry out an import, the line must be active with your current provider. Can you confirm for us if you still have active services with BT? If yes, we will be able to process a number port to Virgin Media. If not, we will not be able to port it unfortunately. The line must be active (even if temporarily active) with your current provider to port.

        Hi Michael,

The number is still active with BT, how do I start the process?

Just port the number to a VoIP supplier and you can use it no matter who your ISP is, and it can also be  accessed on your mobile with a VoIP app.  That's the simplest way as advised by others as well.

See how great the desire is for VM to snare your telephone number into a service bundle that can never be unpicked. Your only option will become to move to a different ISP & hope in the future they support telephones & hope they still can port telephone numbers, or totally cancel VM thus loosing the phone number.
