Port sky number to virgin number possible?

Hi all,

I’ve got Sky Broadband with VoIP, and like many others I’m stuck using the Sky router because the phone service only works through it . there a option to get my own voip service but i dont want to go down that route yet as i only use my sky landline for incomming calls for my old customers.

I also have Virgin Media TV with a Virgin landline, which I’d much rather use as my main phone.

What I wanted to do  was:

“Port” my Sky phone number onto my Virgin number so both numbers become one

Is this possible or are there any other workarounds?

Thanks

Ignore the scaremongering from the niche SIP provider enthusiasts and go ahead with the port to VM (easily the second biggest residential VoIP provider after BT). Ask VM to do it (do not contact Sky), keep the Sky number alive and supply to VM the Sky details (like telephone number, account holder name and service address exactly as they are on the Sky bills as even small differences can cause rejection.

From reports on here, things can go wrong when porting numbers to/from VM.  As you are having trouble getting them to understand what you want, that risk may be doubled for you.

As others have said, porting your number to a reputable VOIP provider will keep it safe for a very small monthly charge.

i only use my sky landline for incoming calls for my old customers.

This is the perfect situation for a proper VOIP provider like "A&A",
it means you will be cancel the phone number say 6 - 18 months in the future,
without the phone number being stuck for ever in a VM bundle that
can never be unpicked only totally cancelled.

Agree Client62   It's a bit like keeping VM because your email is tied in ...

  • Hi cjenks11,

Can you please confirm, when you say you want the numbers to become one, what do you mean? Also, we are able to do number ports but typically once the port is done which ever number you choose for example sky to virgin media the virgin media landline number will be removed🙂
