Landline number port from BT fiasco

Can someone point me in the right direction. I signed for a virgin package including home phone and for the number to be ported. After many promises from virgin (all phone calls and chats have been recorded by me). Despite numerous promises I have just received a message saying the the number can not be ported as it was disconnected. We did not do this. They expect my 85 year old mother who has had that same number for 60 years to accept the number they have given us. Unacceptable. I have read everything and it is up to virgin to resolve this.  Does anyone know a good solicitor wii hi i specialises in this area as I have already spent days and lots of money on this (lost earnings). I want this resolved. I will not accept anything less than number reinstatement. Virgin media have been a total waste of time. I will also contact ofcom about this as I have read their guide line and virgin are at fault and wholly responsible.

    Sorry to hear of the loss of the landline phone number since the switch from Virgin Media.

    We would need to advise that for a landline port to take place, both of the landline services - of the soon to be former and the new gaining provider, would need to be active for this to be completed.

    We can look into this for you, and file a complaint, however we must advise that to complete a number port, we would need to speak to the account holder directly, to complete this action, or someone who may have lasting power of attorney for the account holder.

    If you wanted to however go down a legal route, it would effectively bypass the complaint we can raise for you and need to come from your legal representative to then be directed to our legal team.

    Check out the envelope in the top right hand corner and I can seek to assist you on this matter where possible.
