Landline not working

Our landline hasn’t worked for the last few weeks. We’ve tried following the advice on the virgin website but to no avail. Can I make a technician appointment please ? Thanks

  • Hi sianp1968

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of the landline issue. Can you firstly confirm that your landline is plugged into the telephone port one on the broadband router?

    Best wishes.

I’ve just tried that and it’s worked ! Thanks. Why has plugging it into the 2 socket caused a problem as it wa shine a couple of weeks ago ? Also, it'd be useful to have this advice on the issues page of the website. Many thanks sian

Thanks for coming back to me. Before our chat on the forums, what was it plugged into please?

As from the system check it should always have been plugged into the telephone port one on the router.

      Glad it's fixed though.

It was plugged into port 2, but must have been like that since we last had a technician visit a couple of years ago. Strange , Anyway, thanks for the tip. Sian

Thanks for reaching out to us pietester, and a very warm welcome to you.

Sorry to hear of the issues with the landline services experienced since the local power cut.

Can you please confirm if you have since been able to do any reboots on the equipment at all to see if this generates a dial tone on the service at all?

      Thanks,

      David_Bn

Yes, have rebooted system. No difference. We've had this problem before, about three months ago. Apparently, a local power cut trips a safety switch in the telecoms cabinet 100 yards down our road and switches all the phones off.

  • I had a similar issue when I had no landline for ages but don't use it much. It's more for folk calling me at home.

I ended up having an engineer call and all he did was plug the phone into the router. I could have done that if they had told me. I currently pay for a landline but now as I technically don't have a landline as I understand things, should I be paying for a landline??

I am under the impression that I'm not using the phone as though I'm using VoIP?  Is that correct?

      Hi wilber_force,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

it sounds as though the engineer migrated you over from the old telephone service to the new digital system. Even though it's not plugged in to the wall any longer, we'd still be providing you with a telephone service so this would remain chargeable.

      Many thanks,
