If you log into the VM hub, do you see that Telephony is 'Ready' as per image below?

If it is, adapter should connect to the TEL1 socket on the hub to allow the phone to connect.
If you ported a number from BT, you should have a temporary VM number to begin with which gets replaced with your BT number after it is ported.
