Land line no longer works.

hopefully someone from the forum team will pick this up.
My land line stopped working over a week ago, check the system status and had a green tick against the service. Tried all the phone ports and no dial tone, tried to call my number but the mobile would not connect.
Eventually got through to VM and after some testing and then being passed to another group who did all the same testing with no luck. The person then told me they need to do something and that the service would be back in 24hrs. Well 5 days later still no service and is there any point of calling VM.
They did tell me that I could move to VOIP but my router is upstairs, do not want it moved, and my phone points are downstairs. Has anyone had the conversion with VM running a cable to the old phone wall box from the router. Did VM charge for this service or does it come as part on the move to VOIP.
