House move

Hi 👋.  After a lengthy online chat yesterday I have been left baffled. I have carried my existing contract/package over to new house when I move in 6 weeks. The thing is the girl said I keep the same landline number. I said I can't as where I'm moving to is a different area code (0131 to 01506). She has assured me that it is okay. I've kept a copy of chat, but am I wrong in saying that it should be a new number I get for that area. Confused.com

  • Hi Rob07,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

We're very sorry for any incorrect information received.

We can usually port the numbers on home moves, however you are correct that if it's a different area code, we can not.

To clarify, we can't port the phone number if you're moving to a different area code.

    We are sorry.

If you have any further questions, please pop back to us and we'd be happy to help.

Port your number to a VoIP supplier and then you can move to any ISP without worrying about losing the number.

But the customer can lose a bundle discount if phone is missing. For most residential users moving to a VoiP provider probably costs them and they don't even use the additional features that a VoIP provider offers.

I ported my landline number to a VOIP within my VM contract. Nothing was said by VM.
