Getting rid of old copper phone line after switchover

My landline was switched over a few months ago and I now need to get rid of the old copper cables running throughout my home and also the extension boxes connected to the wall.  Are the copper cables now dead and if so, can they just be cut or do I need an electrician?

    How long will this take? I'm replacing skirting boards over the weekend and need to know asap
