Change VM phone number but port existing number

Hi.

I have just renewed my 'triple' VM bundle because it was much cheaper than unbundling so as to drop the home phone which I wanted to port elsewhere.

Is it possible to port out my existing number to another provider (I want to use it with my business phone system) and replace it with a new standard VM phone number?

If so how do I go about it and what does it cost?

Thanks,

Adrian.

Morning AdrianM2012 ๐Ÿ‘‹ Thanks for returning to the thread to chase this.

I've investigated for you and have an update.

If you were to request the number is ported over to a new provider, this would disconnect your landline services with us. We sadly can't add a temporary number to your account, as when doing this it would disconnect the current number, which needs to be active in order to port it.

You could try going directly to the new provider to request it is ported over, and your remaining services would stay with us all the same!  But we can't guarantee we could set you up with an alternative number at the same time - or that it wouldn't cause issues or an interruption to your services on our side.

Hope this helps clear things up for you! My apologies, I know it's probably not the answer you were hoping for.

Wishing you all the best. ๐ŸŒž

  • Hello AdrianM2012

Thanks for posting your landline query in regards to porting your number and replacing it with a new number, we appreciate you raising this via the forums.

You mentioned moving your number which you use for business, are you looking to do this with a specific provider on a business tariff? If so, they would just need to request the number from us at which point we would be able to replace it with a new landline number for you.

The cost would depend on the landline tier you chose.

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for this detail - I am concerned that if I request the number port that VM will cancel my contract which I don't want - how do I ensure that I just get a new number issued?

Can I assume from your earlier answer that VM wouldn't charge for issuing a new number?

Thanks again in anticipation for your guidance.

There should be no charge for a new number, this is a rather unusual situation and not one we come across very often. I will reach out to one of our telephone team to get a better idea of the exact process and how it works.

Once I get confirmation I will let you know here.

Is there any update from the telephone team as to how this would work?

        Thanks.
