Sky Sports Desktop App not opening

We usually watch Sky Sports via the Sky Sports Desktop App, logging in with Virgin Media credentials.  In the last few days, the Desktop App doesn't open and the footage is streamed directly from the Sky Sports web page.  This results in frequent buffering and the sound is not synced.

Has there been a change to the Desktop App, and/or are others having the same issue?

Quote from another thread may be of interest ?  "There is no Sky Sports App for Windows devices which is quite annoying and Sky force you to use a browser now on Windows for Virgin customers as the Desktop Player seems to be only for Sky Customers and we can't even use Sky GO"

    Hello AH63.

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our community.

We're sorry to hear your Sky Sports is not working through a browser.

As Adduxi has already explained, the actual App was removed after Windows 10 was upgraded.

Sadly, this would now be the case, and we do recommend using the App on a mobile device as it is designed best to work that way.

  • Just to come back belatedly on this, the Desktop app appears to have been removed completely in the past few days for all subscribers, Virgin and direct Sky subscribers included. The web player works similar to the app in that it can be made full screen, etc.

I've had no issues with playing through a browser [Edge and Firefox], and just looking now there was no buffering and the sound was synced. You may have been slightly unlucky when you watched it. It is possible of course that now is not a popular time for sport and there may be congestion due to high demand when there's a live football match on for example, so I wouldn't have seen it.

  • Ive had same problem for weeks, the sky sports app asks for passkey whatever that is then input email verify it but it wont log me in so not doing what uts suppost to do. Any help will be helpful

      Hi 77Spurs77 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community Forums, sorry to hear you are having issue you are having with the Sky Sports app. If you have completed the Single Sign On (SSO) for your Virgin Media account, you do have a choice if you wish to set up a passkey. If you have not done this you can bypass and continue to use your standard method of logging into your account.

I have know idea how to access what this SSO is and why do i need to have a second device to sync the account that then only makes the 2nd device work so virgingo to watch skysports that im paying for, do i need to walk about with 2 devices. This is ridiculous where paying for this and it constantly changes and kicks us out. Any ideas how to keep logged in and not need 2 devices only for the primary bill payer to not use this.
