Packet Loss, High Ping and Network Issues

Hi,

I recently moved home and my VM was ported over on 4th October 2024.

Since then I have had

- high ping on games; with spikes upto 2000ms and then timing out.

- Network issues when loading videos (mainly instagram; have not noticed or used other services)

- Packet loss of 1-2%

My BQM is below:

which seems to high given the fact that I have seen much better at my parents house:

I have a engineer booked but wanted to check if anyone could help before hand

it suggests its high at 90ms for gaming thats nearly unplayable, almost dial up latency

A solitary 90mS spike is trivial. Very likely due to other activity on your internal network, or even neighbours.

likely by wifi so for better wifi get your own router with 1Gb ports and use hub in modem mode

By its very nature WiFi will always be slower and introduce delays.  Use ethernet if your connection is critical

  • Engineer visted and confirmed the incoming cable has attenuation and will need to be replaced. Thanks all

You'll need to chase this with VM to make sure that it happens.
