Overseas connection drop

I connect to an Australian VPN once a week for a remote shift.

Yesterday the speeds slowed to a crawl - 5-8 mbps impossible to work. The VPN has been checked and is fine - I've found out there is a Virgin fault locally in our postcode. The local speeds are fine- 100 mbps in London. Is this something that happens? That when there's a fault they can slow down overseas connections whilst the fault is being rectified? Just not sure if my work issue is related to this or not.

What being reported on your "service status line" - call 0800 561 0061 - which usually gives the most up to date info. and tells you of more local issues and fix estimates, down to street cab/ postcode level.

  • Heya,

They didn't slow your connection intentionally, just that faults often slow down higher latency connections more as it takes longer to recover from packet loss.

  • Hello Koojay.

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our community.

Sorry it's not on better terms though.

Can we just ask if the VPN is working okay now as we checked a few things and can see there was a possible outage in the area. Nothing has show up since though.

Please let me know if you still need assistance as I can send you a private message to check in more depth.

We do also have a service status page here
