Need a different hub?

I've got a Hub 3 with M350 contract.

Download speeds were always brilliant on Ookla (wifi on phone) ususally around 380.

For the last few months it's often sub 100 and rarely bove 250.

V Media connect app test almost always shows hub around 360 to 380.

Yesterday I checked Ookla wikht a laptop/lan cable and speed was around 380.

After a bit of Googling I've concluded that we've just got too many items on wi-fi - up to 14.

Would a later router help perhaps?

Upload speed is always fine.

Any advice welcome!

My view is another hub is unlikely to make much difference. WiFi is very subjective. You say 14 WiFi devices, do you mean they are just on the network are are they all doing large downloads. VM have never and probably never will publish the number of simultaneous devices that can be active on their hubs. I have never run any of my VM hubs in router mode, always in modem mode with my own Wireless Access Points. The WAPs I use each support up to 500 concurrent devices.

  • Thanks for the reply Tudor. No large downloads, just on the network and it's always been in router mode. To be honest, I didn't know there was a modem mode or what it does!

Best look for a better wifi router with 1Gb ports so you can put the hub in modem mode

Wifi traffic in the air is everywhere its speed can drop due to next door or from over the road.

The hub is tested for speed under light load as soon as VM see the numbers they call it done so you might as well use modem mode just for that reason.
