My download speed is only slow on pc

My download speed on every other device is fine and gets up to 500mbps and my pc only get up to 90mbps and I’m using Ethernet.

problem is sometimes it works fine the other times I’m only getting 90mbps but more than 80% of the time it’s not working as it should.

  • Sounds like the ethernet adapter is dropping to 10/100 (100Mbps), rather than Gigabit.

    Try a different cable.

The cable is fine I’ve tested it on my Xbox and it works every time I also forgot to mention that it’s not just the Ethernet the wireless connection is the same

If this PC always runs at 90Mb/s make sure
+ the NIC is a Gigabit adaptor
+ the NIC has Speed & Duplex set to Auto in the PC's Device Manger

Try a different network cable, a CAT 5e is fine for a 1Gb/s connection.

Thing is it doesn’t always run at 90mbps like right I’m getting full download speed but 30mins ago I was only getting 90mbps and speed and duplex is set to auto

  • If you're using Windows, type device manager in the search bar it will bring up a list, click on Device Manager, at the top of the list, then click on  the > of Network adapters to open the list

right mouse click Gigabit Network Connection and then left mouse click on properties

select Advanced and scroll down the list to Speed & Duplex and check that it is set to Auto Negotiation

Then click on OK to finish if that doesn't work, try trouble shooting your network adapter, if no luck you might need a new network card.
