Can I order a pod for weak signal to ev charger?

As the title says. I have recently got a wallbox pulsar max ev charger installed and it is just out of range of my wifi. It barely connects and when it does, it's only temporary.

It is installed on the outside wall but I can not relocate my router to move it closer.

I'm not sure of the terms of getting a pod for no extra charge - is an outdoor ev charger classed as part of the home environment? My package is gig 1 full fibre with mega tv.

Thanks

  • Hi RobLiverpool

    Thanks for posting and welcome back to the community. Sorry for any WiFi signal issues. There's only a charge for the Pod if you're not on a package that has WiFi Max for free. Those packages are any Volt package, or the 1GB service :).

    Can you download the Virgin Media Connect App please and when downloaded, run a wireless scan in every room of the property. This will then check the connection and optimise it where possible to do so. If a Pod needed, you'll be prompted to order.

    Keep us posted :)

  • I've got exactly the same issue. The EV charger is out of range, despite being only 10 meters from the router. But it is obviously outside & the scan on the connect app says the connection is fine. Do I run the scan outside as well?

    Thanks!

      Hi Maggiemagpie,

      You need to run the scan internally, I suggest at a point where the scan shows a weak (under 30Mbps) measurable connection, as according to the Legal Terms

      The scope of the WiFi Guarantee excludes the following: i. WiFi speed tests using a VPN  connection (which may unduly cap the speed reported, and not be reflective of the actual speed delivered to your device);
      ii. exterior buildings (including, but not limited to, garages, sheds and garden offices);
      iii. unconverted loft (one that is unfurnished);
      iv. outside of the home;

    Most EV chargers I have looked at can use a hardwired Ethernet cables. WiFi through external wall is always bad.

    I keep expecting ever spending Rachel Reeves to announce VAT is at 20% & Road Duty at 50% on electricity used for domestic and public EV charging.
