Unwanted free upgrade

Hi there..I'm new to the community group but I.m at my wits end

I had an email offering me a free upgrade from hub3 to hub 4...it is arriving today but I've changed my mind.  I'm happy with what I have and reports on the hub 4 arent good.  I can't get hold of anyone at Virgin to cancel..and i'm panicking they will deactivate my hub3 in 5 days!!!  I dont want to lose my services and I dont want the new upgrade...what do I do????  Im a techophobe and a pensioner unsure of what to do, and wish I'd never clicked the button to order....HELP please

Unfortunately once in the system, your Hub will be deactivated.  Hopefully the VM Mods here may be able to assist.  You could try the Hub 4 and see how you get on with it?  Just change the SSID and passwords to be the same as the old Hub 3 and you will not have to change any of your Wifi devices passwords etc.

oh no...when I googled it said I could just return it as long as I haven't activated it...surely Virgin cant just foist this on me without being able to talk to them ...I really dont want the hassle

Well the sad case is VM some what have upgrade even if you don't want it there reasoning can be it better for the network as a whole due to limited support on old hubs like Docsis spec also the hub if being used as a router mode means security vulnerabilities or wifi vulnerabilities.

The interesting thing is if VM only did modems you would not be complaining...in a way its your fault for using VM hub as a router.

I had an email offering me a free upgrade from hub3 to hub 4

The words that are missing are either ...

    1) I accepted the upgrade and caused a Hub 4 to be delivered

    2) this is a total work of fiction

Bet on Red or Black as we turn the Roulette Wheel !

Yes possibly a complete work of fiction, but then why?

Or possibly a confused and vulnerable person being bounced into something they don’t understand and offers no material benefit to them.

Now ‘Client62,’ which of those do you think is the most likely?

  • @Beverly10, all I can offer to your thread is that I've had an hub4 for about 3 years now and have not had any problems with it at all. I'm a pensioner too and had no trouble setting things up.

Most people assume pensioners are technophobes, not the case here. I’m a definite technophile, been working with IT since 1968 and I’m 79. Originally I could not even talk to my friends about my work and what I did, they just did not understand anything I was talking about!

Same here, many decades ago I started on diagnostic tools for military radar. A topic that was not permitted, as well as not wanted as dinner party conversation.
