I'm obviously not going to put up with this forever, but my alternatives aren't great. All of the Openreach based suppliers seem to be offering half the speeds I was getting for twice the price. That's why I went with Virgin in the first place.
As far as I can see any Openreach supplier would also require a new connection installed (unless I get it through the old copper phone line which is slow and in an inconvenient location) and take 2 weeks to activate. And that's assuming there's no delay trying to cancel the Virgin contract or setting up with whoever (in my previous flat I was with BT who took about 4 weeks to set it up because they wrote my number down wrong!)
It would be much simpler and quicker just to run the cable. But that's assuming, of course, that Virgin can a) assign the correct engineers for the job and b) they actually turn up on the day.
I've already made a complaint to the ombsudsman. I don't suppose it'll be a particularly quick fix, but I'm hoping it'll kick it up the food chain a bit to someone with a modicum of authority and/or common sense.
