Replacement hub4

I recently received an email stating that as I was using an older hub 1 or 2 I could get a hub 4 at no cost. Firstly I have a hub 3 and if I do  get the hub 4 would it tie me into a new contract.  Thanks for any help

  • I have a Hub 3 also & as it is working I'd not be keen to change
to a second hand Hub 4 that is in unknown condition.

Yes, just leave well alone.  The interesting part is VM "think" you still have an old SH1 or SH2.  Lets hope they don't ask for then back  ...   ;-)

    Hi Jmcw

I've moved your post from the chatter/natter boards to the broadband boards as VM Forum Staff don't tend to check the chatter/natter boards.

It might be a good idea for them to check the systems to avoid any potential future charges since you have a hub 3 and not either a hub 1 or 2 as indicated in the email.

Although I haven't seen it, and you haven't quoted the email text I think it's related to the lack of security updates with the older Hub 1, Hub 2 or a Hub 2 AC devices.

        Hi Jmcw 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us with your query. So, the upgrade to the Hub 4 does not carry with it a new contract term, it is simply an upgrade of equipment for new security measures that we have implemented into our equipment that the Hubs 1 & 2 do not have. As you have said you have a Hub 3 and they are capable of the security measures we have put in place to protect your Hub, if you do not wish to upgrade to the Hub 4 you are not obligated to.

Should at any point you choose to upgrade your speed to 1gb, then you will receive Hub4/5 for those speeds to be delivered to you.

        Hope this helps.

A Hub4 is better than a Hub3 if you are in a high utilisation area because it can use the DOCSIS 3.1 channels to spread the load as well as having more 3.0 channels available.
