Remove external VM equipment from my property

Hi,

I have the same issue of an ugly cable outside the of a property I have just bought.  I don’t want. Virgin Media at all, I emailed an address, twice I was given over the phone by VM as I was told they’d deal with the removal but I’ve heard nothing and this was about 6 weeks ago.  Can I just cut the cable?  Or can you organise for someone to come and remove it?  We’re gonna have the drive re-done and the cable runs under the drive so if Tia not removed it’s gonna a end up getting snagged anyway.

wire cutters are your best option - you may get a reply from VM - the usual one is they dont remove cables - they may add the BS that its a utility or it may be needed in the future - all adds up to they will do nothing - just sort it and find a convenient bin - perfectly safe to cut and remove it

      Hi Tony

ive been assured a local rep for my area will contact me.  If they don’t get in touch by the time I get round to tidying up out the front, weed burning and changing the drive then it’ll get damaged anyway.  Good to know.  I tried pulling it through from the man hole but it’ll only move about an inch then it’s stuck fast.

  • Hi ntelling21,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy with the existing cable at your new property.

If any cables are exposed and a trip hazard, we can contact the area manager to request these are made safe, however we wouldn't remove all the cabling coming to the property.

I'll send you a private message now to get some further information regarding the cables you're referring to. We can then determine if damaging these would affect other customers in the area etc.

Please look out for the envelope in the top right of the page and pop back to me when you can.

thats new and different - where did that come from - made up i guess

take absolutely no notice - thats the start of the delays - look for other posts from VM staff [Kath being one] who are more honest and say VM will do nothing - if you want rid of the cables then remove them

if by a remote chance that affects  vm users its not your problem - VM have no legal right to make you keep cables on your property - end of

        Cheers Tony.

from a legal point of view that was my thinking.  I have no contract with VM and I wish for their property to be removed from my premises.  I’ve given them the option to do the work and if they choose not to then alternative action will be taken.

      Hi vikki

I still haven’t heard anything from anybody about the cable removal.  If it isn’t removed correctly by Virgin then it’s gonna end Uk getting snagged/broken when we set to out the front which is as soon as we get a dry weekend in my area.

I have also sent you an email

they dont reply to emails or unsolicited messages - local reps dont reply as afaik they dont exist - you are on the merry go round of they will say anything and do nothing - just cut it - bin it and get on with your project

Hi Vikki, I never heard any more from you and nobody else from VM ever contacted me as you said they would.  We’ve had the works done out front and the cable has now gone!  Thank you for your initial efforts at least.

If Virginmedia did come and bury the cable, it would only be just below the surface and still in the way of any changes you may want to make to your garden.

Of course you can remove the cable and any box/es they may have fixed to the house wall. Just cut the cable off with any suitable tool, where it enters your own property.

It is currently buried but will get snagged with the changes but the consensus seems to be it’s fine to cut it.  That’s still leave them with the opportunity to get in contact before we start making the changes.

thank you and thanks all for your advice

        Hi ntelling21,

Taking a look at things here, we've not received any reply I'm afraid. It's likely due to the fact that unless there is a health and safety risk, we wouldn't come out to remove cables.

As mentioned in the community, you can remove the cables yourself. The cables are not live in anyway so it is safe for you to do this.

If in future you decide you would like to have Virgin Media though, it does mean there would likely be a lengthily delay in your installation.

Please let us know if you need any further advice.

        Thanks,
