Reel of cable left in front garden. Not connected. No one asked for it.

For context, I am not an existing customer.

I suspect a previous tenant from the flat above me had requested a connection to their property. They have since left and the cables were not connected to the property.

Virgin Media drilled through my wall without permission and have left a large reel of cable in my front garden.

I have attempted to contact you on several occasions to correct this matter.

To date I have requested a site survey which no one attended.
All subsequent calls to your team and online chat have led nowhere.

Give VM a reasonable deadline for them to remove the cable (which I think would be reasonable to do on here via a PM with a VM forum person) and advise VM you will dispose of it yourself if VM does not deal. Depending on how much cable is on the reel, you may be able to get some money for it on eBay!

A reel of copper cable abandoned on your property, possibly worth a bit a money to a scrap metal merchant?

  • Would a VM person on here likely pick up this post, or is it best to PM them?

I also need them to fix the damaged box on the outside as the cables are exposed and need boxing in.

I'm not sure it is copper, it would have been pinched already if it was.

A VM person will reply to your topic (generally within a few days) and should offer to take your details via PM.

As for repairs for damage, the similar past topics we have seen on here have simply involved VM stringing the complainant along in endless communication back and forward but with little/no repairing taking place. Be prepared for the fact that VM is unlikely to send top-tier trades people to do the work more likely a local handy person whose skills may not be up to much.

Same approach for the repairs as for the cable. Give VM a time-limited opportunity to resolve and then take further action (which might be via small claims or possibly via a legal service if you have that in your home insurance). Typical topic from the past linked below, so be prepared for some VM 'confusion'

      Hi TechGolem,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry to hear about the cable left and the work done on the property.

I am happy to take a look into this for you. I will private message you now to take some details.

    thank you, very informative.

I've had the pleasure of dealing to VM in the past, so I am prepared.

  • That cable is not cheap at all. I have been tracking the share price of amphenol and it seems to be on a rocket ship, 58% YTD.
