Re-installing internal box

Hi,

We have undergone a rather large renovation to our house, which included new wiring, fresh plaster etc.

Unfortunately, the cable box that sits on the wall inside the house was not placed back, and now it's not easy to set it correctly as there are some sockets in the same area.

Do you know the best way to make the cable shorter so everything fits? Photos attached.

Quite impossible to find a way to contact virgin via chat / email to upload these

  • Thank you for all your responses, The box is intact with the backplate to be placed to the wall. But defo want to avoid drilling another hole from the outside, I don't really see the point either.
I feel that fixing this is a lot simpler instead of making a new hole.

I wonder if I can contact some local engineer to advise, they might have an alternative that would work.

Otherwise, I'll just place this horizontally/otherway around and be done with it.

      Hello roussks

Thanks for posting on the forum in regards to the internal box and cabling, we appreciate you raising this with us and we're happy to advise and help.

We can arrange for an engineer to come out and take a look but as advised earlier in the thread, as this is classed as a 'non fault call out' there would be a fee of £25 for any work undertaken. If the engineer can work around needing to make a new hole they will do.

Let us know if you would like us to arrange this and we can contact you via Private Message to get some more details.

Not entirely sure exactly what sort of placement you want but have a look at the detailed pic's here

      https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/197896059567

which suggest cutting along the cable shroud to facilitate bending the cable to fit in the box.

  • If placed horizontally it would not look aesthetically nice.

also, vertically fits as long as the cable is shortened, and make the insulating tape less thick.

i was thinking an upside down solution but that is not ideal either.

would prefer just a smaller box. But definitely not a new hole

1 if it’s moved by VM it probably would not look "aesthetically nice".

2 the "insulating tape" is covering an isolator and cannot be reduced.

3 VM technician would probably drill a new hole to reposition box, although this may not be possible due to the length of the incoming coax, the removal of the connector and installation of a new one.

Something like this would do surely....

A new backbox must be fixed to the wall for the faceplate to be screwed into. It seems to me that a vertical installation would likely need a new hole drilled for the coaxial cable, and if installed next to the electrical sockets would leave the existing hole visible.

Why not put the box back horizontal, it does not have to be vertical, and save £25.

Request a non-fault tech visit to remedy which costs £25. Either phone it in or wait for a VM person to reply here (usually 2 to 3 days but could be longer)
