Moving out of the country.

Hi, I am moving out of the country for an undetermined amount of time. This happens while I still have 6 months on my VM contract. Will I have to pay a penalty?

You should figure out which is cheaper: cancelling now and paying the EDF or keep paying for the contract term. The latter still needs cancellation with 30 days' notice.

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for reaching out with your query.

If you're still in your minimum term, then early disconnection fees will apply if you cancel due to moving abroad. We recommend reaching out so we can get this closed down for you, as we'll also need you to return the Virgin Media equipment before you leave, failure to do so would incur additional charges to your account, which would be removed once the equipment is returned.

It would also be best to close the account if you're moving and not returning to the same address, as if a new homeowner or tenant moves in and wishes to take our services, any current services would delay this whilst we work on trying to contact the account holder of the active account. If you've moved out of the address and kept your services active, this would action a Goneaway process, where we would close down the active account to allow the new homeowner/tenant to take out a service with us. This would incur the same early disconnection fees and unreturned equipment fees when the account is closed, if these are not returned to us.

Please do reach out to our movers team here and they'll be able to get this sorted for you.
