Move a Virgin Street Cabinet

Hi, there is a virgin media green street cabinet on my land and it's taking up a part of my back garden. I'd like the box removed as I am renovating the garden and the wall. I did not consent for the box to be installed on my property and nor did the previous owner as there is nothing in writing. Please can someone advise. Thank you.

ps: not sure what I should be selecting in the 'Select Board' options above.

You have probably realised by now that you can expect no help or co-operation from Virgin - they will simply ignore you perhaps giving occasional delaying messages saying it is being looked at or asking irrelevant questions to pontificate and delay until you you get in such a stressed state it is easier to give up.

The answers is to take charge of the situation yourself and book a consultation with a specialist solicitor taking all evidence you have (including a hard copy of this thread) and you will find out exactly where you stand. Bear in mind that costs and compensation will be borne by Virgin.

All being well if all goes well with the solicitors advice Virgin will not care go anywhere near a courtroom.

Good luck with it (nice house by the way)

  • Thank you, I have realised that what you say is exactly right. VM ask irrelevant questions as a 'delay' or 'go away' tactic. So I will appoint a boundary dispute solicitor and go all the way. No mercy.

Good luck with it - at one time potential customers could get a free initial consultation - not sure now.

Would be of interest - there have been similar posts of interest where the poster is 'taken to one side' in private messages and nothing more is ever heard about the outcome.

It's rather odd that the wall was built that shape, leaving out a corner of your land. It looks like the cabinet was there first and the wall was built around it.

Agree with jpeg1 that the wall looks like it was built around the box.

My property deeds say words to the effect that the line showing the site boundary is indicative rather than definitive (to be confirmed by 'inspection of the site'). The idea of 'adverse possession' of the land by VM might well be relevant here, particularly if the cabinet has been there for a very long time.

Unless VM has its own reasons to move the cabinet (such as an area upgrade etc.) I would guess that the legal costs in resolving the issue will be significant.

Even if the box does get moved, the OP may just create a new problem of not being able to maintain the boundary wall as in this topic

because of minimal access behind the cabinet.

I suggest that the above points give more cause for a specialist solicitor to be consulted to review the situation

Most definitely.  I feel people on this forum resign from raking these matters all the way. Cost and effort is probably putting them off.  On and off, I gave been trying to liaise with VM for years. So I'll continue.
