Master socket

How do I arrange for a new master socket to be installed?

  • VM would not install an Openreach socket. In the past VM would install its own VM telephone master socket connected to the VM telephone network (separate from Openreach). VM landlines are now provided from the back of the VM hub.

If you are having a new Sky installation, it is up to Sky/Openreach to deal with the connectivity side of things to make your new Sky service work.

    More info needed.

What do you mean by a 'master socket'? That term would normally refer to the main socket to plug in a telephone. VM's landline service is now provided from a telephone socket on the back of the VM hub.

If not a telephone socket, are you needing a socket to connect the VM hub/TV box?

Yes it’s to plug in the phone. The original installation by the open reach engineer was such a mess and in the wrong place it got discarded and has never been required over the last two years until now.

Is 'landline' included as part of your VM package?

If it is, log into the VM hub and on the 'Welcome' page check if you see 'Telephony' is 'Ready'.

If so, you plug a phone into the back of the VM hub with an adapter provided by VM

If you are moving to Sky, they will arrange with Openreach to install whatever is necessary to receive their service. What is installed will depend on whether you are having a service over copper or fibre lines.

  • Ok thanks, after hours on the phone and a VM engineer turning up to tell me that I need an open reach engineer to do the work I have given up with vm and will wait for sky to do it. Sky will only act after their hub is switched on remotely and it doesn’t work!
