How easy to install.

Evening,

Currently with SKY FTTP which will end in June.

How easy would it be to install Virgin here based on the picture.  I have never had virgin but my neighbour (driveway on right of wall) had it installed with the virgin pavement plate actually at my side. (they are now with city fibre).

Openreach when installing FTTP simply lifted the paving right next to the wall and ran it straight along there.

I am not sure how simple it would be to have it connected next to openreach cable or if I can even use that plate in pavement.

I can choose between Openreach, CityFibre or Virgin and can get 1gb for 39 a month with Virgin which is a lot cheaper than staying with SKY or moving to BT or EE.

you can get City Fibre you say so assuming its a reasonable price why are you even considering VM - CF WILL turn up on the day and install overhead via the nearest pole and you will be up and running

VM MAY turn up anytime in the 18 months after you order - may come up with more problems that you can shake a stick at and may or may not get you up and running

and if you choose the right isp to supply CF you will get a FIXED price 2 year deal with no increases for any reason unlike VM

Thank you. CF have indeed dug up the street so that is an option. I was concerned about their use of sharing IP and the problems it will cause but I could get a static IP !

Before you sign up to Virginmedia, spend some time reading a few pages of this forum. Then go and check the reviews on Trustpilot. You'll then have plenty of advice on which to base your decision.

    Knows their stuff

Unless it is Virgin XGS-PON (fibre all the way to inside the house), then the Virgin HFC network will feel slower than any FTTP service due to DocSIS latency. If it was me, I would stick to another Openreach provider if you do not want to remain with Sky (BT/EE, Plusnet, TalkTalk, Zen, Vispa, AAISP, Vodafone, NOW, Aquiss, uno and others) or CityFibre. Virgin also have two price increases in their 18 month contract which have no escape clauses other than pay a hefty termination fee.

i went with CF via No One a few months ago - fixed ip and 900+ up and down for £30 - that was a special deal from CF for new sign ups after the install - its gone up a bit since then to new customers but well under £40 fixed for 2 years - came on the day at the time specified - up and running in less that an hour

    whats not to like

I like noone what worries me is the status page showing the amount of downtime cityfibre has. Not sure if that's national or regions!

      Would use own router .

been with them about 3 months - have had no down time from CF that i know of - some equipment blew up or failed at noone - they were back up and running within an hour - i have absolutely no complaints so far - CS from noone is a breath of fresh are compared to this lot - its mainly email and is quick and knowledgeable

i use my own mesh system and they give a rebate for not needing their router - like i said - whats not to like
