Having difficulty getting setup

Hi all,

Brand new to Virgin Fibre. Gone for the 1 gig package. Broadband only. No phone or TV.

Just gone to set up my router in my new home and I'm a little confused.

In the box I received 1 router, 1 power supply and cable, 1 cable with red 'wall socket' at one end and Black 'splitter or broadband ' at the other. I also received 1x ethernet cable which I won't use.

I plugged the power cable in. I plugged the black end saying Splitter or broadband to the router and I then went to plug the other end saying 'wall socket' in red to the wall socket. When I got to the wall socket however and it's black. There is nowhere to plug it in.

Coming off the wall socket is another cable, white that's marked 3.9 at the wall socket.  I traced this cable around the house and it goes into the rear reception room however that has a 'male socket' same as the 'wall socket' cable.

Not sure if the previous owners have changed something up or I'm missing some parts in the box.

Any help much appreciated!

Sounds like the previous customer has simply left some existing coax cable connected.

Post up some pic's of what you are trying to connect to.

When you post pic's, they will disappear for a short time to be moderated, before reappearing again.

  • Thanks for replying so quick.

I thought it would be a case of black end into router which works and red end into wall socket but the wall socket looks blanked off with a cable in side that runs into another room

The white box in pic no.3 looks like your point of supply for your VM service.

Where/how you connect depends on where you want the hub to be placed.

You can unscrew the connector which is screwed into the box (11mm spanner IIRC) then push-fit the red 'Wall socket' connector onto the wall box socket. That will allow you to have the hub next to the wall box.

Alternatively, as per Roger_Gooner, follow the existing cable from the wall box to its end. Screw the other end of that cable into the hub. Ignore the 'Quick Start' cable.

In the past, VM's connectors were screw fit. They may be hard to get off but they only need screwing on hand tight.

VM's new connectors are push fit. They push over the wall box connectors but they may also be hard to push on.

  • Thank you both. Got a 12mm spanner to hand. Whipped off the cable attached to wall socket and placed red end. Up and running immediately
