Fiber broadband not working

My virgin media hub 3 is not connecting to the internet. The advanced status page on the hub says that the connection is Not Locked, and is "Ranging".

The fiber into my house goes into a Boostral 710 converter. This is connected to the Hub 3 using coax. The Boostral 710 shows the following lights:

  • OPT IN: Orange/red
  • PWR: Solid green
  • OPT OUT: Solid green

Any ideas what could be wrong? I've tried turning everything off/on, and doing a factory reset on the Hub 3.

  • The Boostral 710 is making a buzzing sound, which is odd.

Here's a photo of the lights.

Seems to be the OPTical IN is faulty.  It could be a break outside, or dirty fibre or an area fault?  Either way it's a job for VM tech's to sort out.

The primary place to report faults or for service requests is Customer Services on 0345 454 1111/150 if you have a VM landline or wait two or three days for a VM staff member to get to your post. This board is not a fault reporting system.

We have a Hub 3 also on RFoG.

A loss of signal often affects everyone in the surrounding streets and for every type of service.
Ask if the folks near you are also offline.

During a signal outage, the Hub 3 front panel displays green flashing symbols
& the Hub 3 the status overview shows (No RF signal detected)

You're better off leaving Virgin Media to be honest and joining one of those small fibre companies like Community Fibre.

For many like us, VM are the ISP of last resort / a life line all in one.

In our street, we do not have other fibre providers, Openreach don't offer FTTC.

Good luck on BT ADSL at < 1.5Mb/s from a rural exchange that is over 4Km away.

I don't see how it makes sense to jump ship just because an ONT light shows a fault.
