Does moving home start a new contract term

I have an 18 month contract that started in July 2024. I believe this contract ends on 22nd Jan 2026.

I've asked to move my current connection to my new address this Monday, 15 Sep 2025. I've received a new contract via email that states contract start date 15 Sep 2025, minimum contract length 18 months. So am I on a new contract for 18 months from the 15th of September.

I haven't changed the package in anyway. The only thing I have is Volt M500 Broadband.

Under monthly service costs it shows "Initial monthly service charge £38.68", "Promotion end: Increasing to £70.94 from 22nd Jan 2026". Am I on the hook for £70.94 from Jan 2026 for another 12 months or so or can I cancel on 22nd Jan 2026 without penalty?

The contract I've been sent doesn't mention a contract end date anywhere so it's very confusing when the start date is set to 15 Sep 2025 and minimum length is mentioned as 18 months (Doesn't specify when the 18 month period is counted from)

Thanks

The weakness of the system is that there is an account for every address instead of a single permanent account which details everything including address changes. Hopefully the new system will correct this.

This seems to happen quite often on these Forums.  It should just be a "Move and Transfer" whereby nothing changes.  You just move house and take your existing kit with you.  No changes to your current contract should apply.

Adduxi  I believe you do get a new contract number and sometimes (often) the items are not transferred over from the old one.

Tudor   Yes, I forgot to add a new account is created, as accounts are tied to an address.

  • Hi driver27

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

No as long as you're changing nothing, then it's a contract continuation.

What may have to happen, is they put it on at full price/contract, due to coding, then amend it after you're all set up.

I'll send you a PM now to take some details and can check everything for when it's all installed :).
