Coaxial cable for hub5

**Subject**: Exposed External Cable and Broadband Outage During Wet weather

Hi Virgin Media Team and Community,

I recently had Virgin Media broadband installed at my property, with a Hub 5 and an external omnibox fitted on my front wall. However, I’m concerned about the installation as The coaxial cable running from the pavement to the omnibox is partially exposed along my front patio and only shallowly buried near the pavement. I have included a picture. The cable is running at the base of the black fence till the pavement

Yesterday I lost broadband signal for about 3 hours during wet weather and there was no other outage reported in the area. I’ve attached photos showing the cable’s condition along the patio and near the pavement for reference.

Could someone confirm if the setup is correct and is the cable meant to be exposed like this and will it get worn out and damaged? Because as the weather gets worse over winter , I don’t want to keep getting outages in wet weather

Thanks in advance for your help

Bit hard to see the detail in the photo.

In some places it looks like a black plastic tube with a green stripe down the side. That would be a tube which contains a fibre optic cable.

In other places it looks like shotgun cable (a larger diameter coax cable bonded against a thinner telephone wire) but VM would not be likely to use that on a new installation.

Either way the external grade cable or fibre optic tube is designed to be outside for years in all weathers.

Points where the cable is vulnerable is where it exits from the ground and/or in high traffic areas such as driveways and footpaths where it is more likely to get crushed or snagged.

The cable running down the fence looks fairly safe IMO as it is off the ground and in plain sight and on your property.

I'd worry more about the weeds taking over your drive.

I’d suggest you mind your own business. Sounds like you’re not very knowledgeable so I would recommend you also educate yourself on matters before responding with pitiful answers. Maybe get employed if you’re bored spending time on forums where you have nothing constructive to add
