When can I discuss renewal offers?

Hi there,

My bill is going to go up to £225 per month from February which as you can imagine is quite a huge jump(!). I'm currently paying £120 per month with loyalty discounts which the moderators on this forum helped me find the best deal.

I've been offered an outrageous Sky deal which is making me discuss my future earlier than I thought and have actually been targeted repeatedly with the following:

Sky Ultimate TV + Netflix + Sky Sports + Sky Cinema + Ultrafast Broadband

Monthly Cost: £35 (for the first 12 months)

Minimum Term: 24 months

Thats like an insane offer. I've never gone to sky before and been with virgin media for literally a quarter of a century now (august 2000 i remember summerslam 2000 as my first ever wwe ppv event i saw live on tv haha) but this feels like too good to turn down. it really does seem new customers get the best offers!

A friend of mine had been through retentions and got the following:

"Just gone through the usual stuff with virgin art the end of contract and got the below for £96 per month which I feel isn't to bad

Volt Gig1 Broadband

Netflix premium

2 Virgin TV V6 tivo

Mega TV

Sky sports and cinema

Sky sports hd

Premier sports *which i dont have*

TNT sports"

I was actually looking for something similar but with 3 virgin tv 360 boxes (thats what i currently have) but the sky offer has just blown that out of the water.

Any idea then i can discuss options with virgin media or do i just accept the sky offer as they said they'd sort out cancellation without any penalty?

Any advice?? thanks as always virgin forum!

  • Hi djr_uk,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

We're sorry to hear that a new offer from Sky is looking tempting. The best renewal offers are always available when you're within the last 30 days of your contract. As your contract isn't due to end until February, you're quite a way off this for now.

If you do decide to leave and move to Sky, please be aware that there would be early termination fees charged to your account so unless Sky are offering to cover those charges, these would be payable.

    Many thanks,

        Hi djr_uk,

Thnks for coming back to us. Yes the date your loyalty discounts expire will usually be the last day of your minimum term. You can also view your contract by logging in to My VM > My Account > Check your contract details to view your contract information.

        Many thanks,

It's much too soon to discuss leaving. Stick with VM until the end of the year and check your options then.

    Knows their stuff

You can cancel 30 days before your contract ends, which giving your 30 day notice, and leave for nothing

Alternatively move somewhere that doesn't have VM services , and you can claim a refund of cancellation charges (might be an  extreme workaround  though!)
