Unreal virtual verification

I tried to log in on my virgin media account. Instead of putting in my email address and password as usual I was asked to set up a new password. It mentioned O2. I did this and then a window came up saying there was an issue. Told me to call on 150. I am very hard of hearing so I don't like using the phone. I found Virgins page on Facebook and messaged them. They ask me the usual questions, email address, phone number and account number. Then I was asked to do an unreal verification test. I was asked to download an app called Remity. I didn't understand all this so I said no. It seemed excessive just to get back into my Virgin account. Alarm bells were ringing. So firstly, was this a scam and secondly how do I get back into my Virgin account? I am very wary and confused. Thanks

    VM contact details are below;

     📞Call: 150 (free of charge) from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone, 📲WhatsApp: 07803089684, 💻Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/virginmedia 🐤Twitter: https://twitter.com/virginmedia

    That app "Remity" is for doing money transfers, so don't see why VM would use this?  Sounds like a scam to me?

  • Hello Craftycaz.

    Thanks for your first post and welcome to our community.

    Sorry to hear you're having issues getting access to you online account.

    We've recently updated our online process so O2 customers can sign in and view their account alongside Virgin Media.

    This is at no cost to the customer and the Remitly you mentioned is definitely a scam.

    Can I please ask if you've been able to access your account since your last post?
