TNT sport removed from package.

Hi, I have the Maxit tv package which includes TNT sport, however, TNT sport has been removed from my package without any prior warning. Why is this? TNT sport is one of my most watched channels, and is supposed to be included?

  • TNT sport has also been removed from my package and I have Maxit TV, how do we rectify this?

      Hi Dbarker225,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

I'm sorry to hear that your TNT Sports has been removed. Did you receive the email from us making you aware of this happening and how to stop this/register your interest to keep it? It'll include a link to a form. It'll be worth checking your spam/junk folder in case it's arrived there.

      Thanks,

        Hi Zach,

I didnt recieve the email regarding the removal of TNT sports, I've checked my spam folder and it isn't in there either.

        Thanks

  • Personally I think it's really poor that Virgin Media have removed TNT Sports from customers mid contract, I'm really surprised they are legally allowed to do this even if they do send an email.

Unfortunately they can change the channels on offer at any time and is in the small print of their T&C's. They just have to give 30 days notice.

I agree though, as previously got got up in the UKTV debacle, that Mr David Bouchier from VM at the time appeared to "bully" the broadcaster into providing content for a much cheaper price for VM, but not to the end customer including wanting more on demand content. VM public responses named him in various statements, but VM backed down in the end and channels returned as customers were fuming and quit as soon as they could if a price increase (as an excuse and a time when exit without penalty was a real thing) or at end of contract.

But the T&C's also states in B2.2 where possible an "alternative similar" channel will be offered and if none was available customers could get a discount or leave penalty free.

Yes that is a very good point - how can VM legally require a customer to 'fill in a form' to continue receiving a service that they are already contractually obliged to provide. The thinking is totally muddled as was their email falsely telling customers that as they hadn't watched the channel in a six month period they were kindly removing it - at least in that case there must have been at least one person in a position of authority with perhaps a sense of embarrassment or perhaps more likely a portent of legal challenge.

but you are the customer who provides their funding. You can always defund at end of contract and open your wallet to another provider like I did 🙂

  • I think they've handled this poorly, but at the same time I can see why they might have done it.

For people who had BT/TNT included in a legacy package, it was a package channel rather than an add-on.

As frustrating as it is, they do allow themselves wriggle room to add/remove channels from packages with 30 days notice, so what was 'advertised' or what they signed up for bears little relevance.

I suspect they've done this as a mechanism to quickly reduce TNT subscription numbers, as a point proving exercise and leverage in their negotiations with TNT. Something along the lines:

"...you want to increase the charge to VM per subscriber? Fine we'll cull the subscriber numbers so you make less money overall anyway..."

Of course at the risk of annoying people who've suddenly lost it, but I suppose they've decided the benefit is likely to outweigh the negative. Lots of Maxit customers probably never watched it, so more effective to remove in bulk and reinstate on a case by base basis.
