Stay or go?

Hello!

I'm on M350 (but with Volt, so this gets a boost, as does my mobile package). With the basic TV deal (we hardly ever watch it but don't have an aerial or a dish), I am paying £32 a month.

This is increasing to £76 in January. I've called to get back to my original £32 a month, but the "best they could do" was £45. So I've asked to disconnect.

They asked who I was going to - I just said I resented paying more for the same and wanted to disconnect.

Now I wait for the retentions call. They didn't seem to bothered so maybe this is it or maybe they'll call me back.

Would rather not switch as it's a faff - what happens next?

You can either accept the price you have negotiated with Retentions, or just walk away.  By the way, the price you were offered might not be available the next time you ring, should you do so.  It's a "one time only" sort of thing to get you to accept there and then.  It's not all bad changing ISP you know, I've left VM twice and gone elsewhere. Just make sure you have an overlap as not to be left with no broadband supply.  Even then a 30 day rolling  data SIM will give you temp cover.

The flip-side is, that's a ~40% increase since approx May 2022. That does feel a little on the high side, but without a top-end TV setup or any telephony, I'm not overly surprised.

  • Hello shikwada1

Sorry to hear you were unable to agree a deal when speaking to the team following the end of term increase. We understand the frustration this can cause, welcome to the community.

As you are already aware, at time the contract was agreed it would have included promotion al discounts to reduce the cost. Over the course or at the end of the term these expire resulting in the higher price notified when taking the contract.

As you have given your 30 days notice it is likely that a member of the team will contact you during this time to make a further offer, hopefully this will be more suitable for you.

    Hi shikwada1

I suggest signing into My Virgin Media and checking your Marketing & Contact Preferences

Under the Marketing Consent sub heading is a box that reads, 'Sounds good! Keep me up to date'

Make sure that the box next to it has a tick in it, otherwise you definitely won't receive a callback.

If you do need to update those preferences be sure to click on Save Changes.
