Renewal cost

I have received my renewal cost which has increased substantially. I called and they reduced monthly cost but still over £30+ pounds more a month.

On discussion with other VM members who have been loyal they appear to be paying less than I was paying for my contract that has just finished.

Do not really want to change supplier but feel I am being forced to.

Each of your monthly bills, and your contract, all show what your undiscounted price is - along with details of your time-limited discounts. So I'm not sure what you mean by receiving your renewal cost?

My educated guess would be an offer to pre-contract at whatever price is mentioned.

Realistically, it matters not one jot what others may be paying for your combination of services. What matters is what price you can obtain from alternate providers to supply you.

Have you researched this? If not, you need to - it's the absolute basics of a negotiation with VM retentions.

VM will take from you the maximum amount of money you are prepared to pay and that VM can get away with. This may be a lot more, or less, than others who receive the same services. VM tries to carve out an individual deal/price with each customer at renewal.

Do as japitts suggests and work out which competitor you would move to if you do not stay with VM. Have that package/price info at your fingertips when you try to renew with VM.

If VM's package/price does not meet your needs then switch supplier.

If you have marketing options on in 'My VM' you may get a retentions call back after you cancel but it is not guaranteed so if you do cancel you need to be prepared to follow through and leave.

Retentions will already know whether you have fast broadband available from another supplier at your postcode. If you don't have the same information and a competitive price quote then you will lose any negotiation.
