Remittance Cheque issued in maiden name

Hi there,

My account was closed in Sept 2023. I've just received a cheque through the post which is in my maiden name (as my account was in my maiden name at the time) I'm now married and my bank account name has changed and they won't accept the cheque as the names are now different.

Is there a possibility of getting the cheque re-issued in the correct name if I supply appropriate documentation? I'm not close to local bank branch to attempt this with them so am hoping this is an option. ðŸ¤ž

    I very much doubt that VM will be able to issue a cheque in your married name. This is because VM only have your maiden name, have never seen a marriage certificate to change account to your married name and you do not have an active account with them. Legally they don’t who you are. I think your best course of action is to contact your bank. If you had an account with the bank in your maiden name and changed it to your married name there should be no problem. If not, I think it will be a lengthy process.

      Thanks for your input Tudor. It appears they will if I send them proof of my name change which I'll get onto soon.
