Problems with getting cable replaced

So last Thursday our water company came to do some maintenance work outside and ended up accidentally cutting through our external cable. A Virgin engineer came out the next day to access it and said the cable will need to be replaced and an appointment was booked for Monday.
Two engineers came out Monday, after about an hour they said they couldn’t do anything as there was water damage and the tarmac will need to be dug up to clear the damage.
Another appointment was scheduled for the following day - didn’t show up. Contacted Virgin and another appointment was scheduled for today. Again, hasn’t shown up. Called Virgin to ask for an update. Was told they don’t have an update as it’s an outside contractor, they just said to wait til 9pm. Who is digging a hole at 9pm?! Which means another day of waiting in all day tomorrow for someone who may or may not show up. It’s getting ridiculous now, we’ve been without service for 6 days. I don’t have any faith in this getting fixed this week

Why would you wait in all day for external work? You dont have to be in at all for external work.

If they need to dig up the road it will be weeks rather than days

If it's an outside cable repair, this will be handed over to an outside contractor, and unfortunately they work to their own timescales. But you would not need to be at home for this work unless they specify a date for it.

Don't forget that you will be entitled to compensation after the first two days without service.
