Problems downgrading my package

I have a television + broadband + telephone deal, up for renewal July the 17th

I wish to remove the television part of the deal, to make do with Freeview

 

Dialling 150 is not helpful . They are unable to offer me a broadband + phone only deal as displayed on the VirginMedia website that is being offered to new customers … on the basis that I am an existing customer

 

Any advice will be gratefully received

    There is no too much point in trying to renew until you are very near to your last 30 days of your minimum term. You have most negotiating power at that time.

    VM will do everything it can to obstruct you from downgrading at that time.

    Nearer the time, do your research into your alternative suppliers and prices/package info for those. Then go back to VM.

    If VM fails to come up with a suitable package/price, put in a cancellation. You might get a call back with a better offer but there is no guarantee that will actually happen.

    All negotiations with VM sales agents are a game of bluff and counter-bluff. You are only likely to get what you want if the sales agent senses that you are clued up with alternative pricing and have a genuine plan ready to leave VM.

    One touch switching is also an option to leave which can truncate the 30 day notice period but does not allow for an overlap of services.

    As with all providers, we create introductory offers to new customers. At the start of all of our customer’s time with us they will have benefited from such a deal. Once this expires, we'll always do all we can to offer the best existing customer deal available.
